"Need a break from the ritzy shopping in town? Head to Bettyann and Jimbo's Junkadoodle for funky finds and loads of fun." "Junk may mean trash to some, but after one stop in Bettyann and Jimbo's Junkadoodle, you'll leave with a whole new appreciation for rubbish. On West Lovers Lane in Dallas, this campy boutique, owned by Bettyann Nugent and her brother, Jimmy Henley, packs in finds from mannequin busts and pink flamingos to elegant chandeliers and armoires. You'll find colorful clocks, silver picture frames, and old leather suitcases. A Mr. Sock Monkey oil painting goes for $85 and a Howdy Doody lunchbox costs $18. If you want it, Bettyann and Jimbo either ha$1ve it or they'll hunt it down for you. 'Someone once wanted a stuffed rooster, the taxidermy kind, and we didn't have it. [But we found one.]' 'People sign up for items on the wish list, and then Bettyann and Jimbo will find them. They bring in stuff, and we wonder if it will ever sell because it's so off-the-wall. Then, that strange thing is gone the next day.' Garden gadgets, iron trellises, and patio furniture fill the side yard of the store. Inside, [it's] divided into sections such as an area for kitchen garb and another for toys and kiddie trinkets. There's even a western section where you can snag old moccasins or a horseshoe lamp. Items carry price tags from $1 into the [hundreds] but Bettyann and Jimbo call of it 'junkadoodle.' 'We're interested more in the decorative side of antiquing than the collecting angle,' says Bettyann. 'We have fun looking for treasures and keep a sense of humor about ourselves, especially on this fairly serious antiquing street in Dallas.' ...Keep an eye out for the large [Spartan] trailer on the side of the house and the pink flamingos scattered around the yard. Take it from me, Junkadoodle is hard to miss." |
